We have a spring-fed 8 acre pond in southeast nebraska. It has muddy banks on one side and sandy banks on the other. Our fish population consists of channel catfish, Bluegill, green sunfish, common carp, freshwater drum, largemouth bass, white crappie, and gizzard shad.

They would likely gravitate towards those sandy bottoms, especially if it's cooler, deeper water. Can you tell us more about the pond? That's a lot of species and a few are generally very undesirable (common carp, white crappie, gizzard shad). How are things holding up? What's the balance like?

Things are fine crappie have almost completely died out haven't caught any in years. Carp have been in the pond for around 40 years and have never become a problem. The shad are about 8 inches long. We have a small river that feeds into the pond as well as it being spring fed so we could make a pretty good breeding habitat for walleye.

The pond used to be a gravel mine till they hit the spring.
