We are planning to add walleye to our 8 acre pond which has a set population of LMB, BG, CC, and many others. A couple years ago, a shad population has arrived and have settled into the ecosystem and we have a little trouble controlling them they have gotten to big for the LMB. Are the shad enough of a diet fish for the walleye or should we add another fish?
P.S. Walleye were recommended to be an addition to our pond by the Nebraska Fish and Game commisioner.

You might have overcrowded bass that are all too small to eat the big shad. What is the weight ratio on the bass?

They are spread out between 20 and 6 inches pretty evenly. We caught an eight pounder in the spring.

If you want to thin out the GS, they do it here by lightly treating lakes with Rotenone. The GS are susceptible to Rotenone at levels that do not affect the other fish.
Northern LMB won't grow large enough to prey on adult GS.
The last gill net survey that the DNR did on a local lake showed over 60% of the biomass in the lake was GS. The next largest % was common carp.

Here either. No LMB I am aware of can eat large overwintering northern GShad. See below.

I would like to have a small bait pond with these guys in it. This would be nice to catch a few to use for catfish bait. Hard to beat that fresh shad, either live or cut.
