I have sold southern states, nutrena, purina, zeigler, cargill, and silver cup. The best resposiveness has been with cargill aquafeed. Many hathceries use this fish food and I trust while it might not best for recreational fish it is best way to put lbs of flesh on otherwise they would swtich.
I respect cost analysis so while some feeds are better are they most econimical choice. Are they avaialbale locally? Cargill is setup to ship smaller quantities 20 bags etc. much better than any other source I have dealt with so that is what Im currently offering.
Just a differnt take on questiosn being bounced around. Sometiems I think we are splitting hairs a bit. Lot more to growing big fish such as population dynamics, amount of feed, water quality, etc. than what brand food.
Lord willing at somepoint I will do my own research on growth rates vs. diff feed formulations.

I think next year I'm gonna do a cage experiment and put aquamax 600 against cargill.. 4 cages 2 bluegill 2 HSB just for the fun of it.. What do you guys think? Nothing too scientific just 10 fish same size in each cage fed for 5-6 months see who wins..
I believe in catch and release. I catch then release to the grease.. BG. CSBG. LMB. HSB. RES.

My reply in red. Many hathceries use this fish food and I trust while it might not best for recreational fish it is best way to put lbs of flesh on otherwise they would swtich. Over a short term profit motivated horizon. I have no problem with them making money but that does not mean what they do is best for the fish over the long term. Two clearly different purposes and goals.
I respect cost analysis so while some feeds are better are they most econimical choice. Not for hatcheries as they look at cost vs growth over the short term. They will feed the cheapest food with good growth over a short term horizon. They are in the aquaculture business (ie profit) and all the studies are based on that approach ( getting from fry size to sales size as fast as possible for the least cost).
Sometiems I think we are splitting hairs a bit. I agree and so stated in an earlier post as long as they are not subing plant products for fish meal and oil. I am not ready to accept that jump yet.

I recently ordered some Silver cup Hi Pro pellets from Keystone Hatcheries in Illinois. They offer 1/8, 1/4, 1/3, and 3/8 inch pellets which are 45% protein and 16% crude fat. The bags are $43 a piece. I am not sure on the source of the protein.
