I've read in a lot of places that average depth (in most cases) is 1/2 the maximum depth of the pond. Would this be true if my 1/4 s.a. pond has a 3:1 slope to the bottom, 13' deep at full pool? Quite a bit of the bottom is flat at 13'. It's hard to believe my average depth is about 6' or so when the majority of the pond seems deeper. How do I calculate average depth?

Your rule of 1/2 the maximum depth as a decent guess of average depth applies to smaller dug ponds such as yours. In your pond keep in mind that there is a lot more bottom area in the nearshore shallow area compared to the area of the bottom that is deep.
