I'm looking into building a pond but the only place to build one is by alot of oak trees. I was wondering if this is a mistake due to all the leaves that would go onto the pond and turn to muck? Is thereany way to prevent the leaf problem or does this hurt a pond?

I am just guessing but tree arent a bad thing as long as they arent right up against the edge so all the leaves dont fall into the water.

I would ASSume that if you had say 15-20 feet from the edge of the leaf line (made up term to describe the edge of the trees canopy) you will be ok. Leaves are going to blow in regardless, just try to minimize it.

No sweat. An awful lot of ponds are built in oak country.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

You can clear the trees that would directly affect the pond.

I know alot of leaves are gonna blow in nomatter what since it will be by the woods. Will a aerator prevent the pond muck they would cause from settling to the bottom?

I believe it would help but I am no aeration expert so I will let someone else chime in.
