new to this site,must admit it's nice.i have a 5 acre pond that is about 7 months old and full of water.i cannot get the water to clear up,we have good grass around the edges put still have muddy water.i tryed gypsum in 1 gallon of water and it worked fine.so i did put some in the water put it did not work.any ideas on what i can do,i do not have the $$$ to put 1,500.00 in gypsum in pond.i have been putting fertiziler in pond since early march but that's not really doing much good.can somebody help me.thanks f.d.

the only think i can add is wait it out,i think time will help you.you might try hay,my wildlife & fisheries guy told to try this several years ago.when i did this i think we put 2 bales of hay per acre.i've never heard of this on this site but i think it helped some.it does take about 2-3 weeks before you see a difference.

like Lee said be patientent , takes time for clay and soil particles to settle. i thought mine would never clear, three years later, too clear. i put my fatheads and bluegills in the first spring she filled , was still not clear. also as long as other ponds in your area are clear and you don't have unusual conditions, yours will be clear too. with all the soil in the water, i don't know if you should or shouldn't fertize a new pond, up north we don't bother with that stuff lol. i,m sure one of the south pond guys will fill you in. \:\)

The hay idea draws my attention. Does anyone else have some input? I think I've seen this idea on this forum before. What are the drawbacks as it decomposes?
