Im from SE Alabama, and I have a 2.2 acre pond on my property (been here about a year). Looking forward to getting some info on how to maintain it...its my first pond and I dont know anything about pond maintenance. Thanks for having me!

Lman, welcome. Tell us a little about the fish you have, and source of water. Also, pictures are a big help.

Sure. There's bass, bream and carp in the pond. The pond is fed by a well pump. I'll see if I can find some pics, but, as I said in my post in the "Muddy water" subforum, its kinda brown and ugly right now. Last year it was clear all year long, but this year its been muddy brown about 2/3 of the time. Don't know why....

Thanks for the welcome!!

Welcome! When you say carp, are they grass carp? And about how many and what size are they?

So these were not stocked by you? Reason I ask, is a lot of large carp can create that muddy water by rooting around the soft bottom of a pond. Not saying this is why, but seeing if it's something we can rule out or address.

Last year the pond was clear, but this year its ugly brown frown

Omaha's right about the carp. You didn't mention catfish - are you sure you don't have them, because they will also stir up the bottom. Have you had much rain or run-off?

Its been raining a fair bit more than this time last year. Dont get any runoff to speak of.

Hi again, I got a cpl of pics of the pond, since someone thought it might help.

We've gotten a lot of rain lately and the pond is about full...which almost never happens.
