Any idea what kind of plant this is, and is it invasive?

I would say it is Rose Mallow, A wild variety of hibiscus. It has not been invasive in my pond. I have only for two springs though. Someone else will have to chime in on long term effects. Supposed to be good for waterfowl and other seed eating birds.

If it was invasive, I wouldn't be having so much trouble getting it to grow! It probably depends a lot on your climate and soil type, but mine gets up to a grand height of 6" or so. In the wild with better soil I have seen some pretty impressive plants.

It has some large roots that have grown through the basket it is in. It is in my wife's koi pond(my plant experimental pond!!). It has some beautiful flowers.

I think it is this:

Kelly Duffie may know more about this plant in the open pond.
I've never grown it in a pond so I do not know if it is rampant. It likely does not grow deeper than 3ft.
