As money allows, I have been enlarging a pond that I have in my backyard. It started out at .75 acres and is now a little over 2.5 acres. As you can see from the picture the south side (left) is wider. I want to widen the middle and north side and I can't decide whether one large dozer would be better than an excavator and dozer. They used a D6 and D7 to do the south 1.25 acres and that went smoothly. The far side would be widened and there is a lot of high ground, but I don't mind a large hill in the back of the pond as it would provide a good wind break. The dirt will be pushed about 100 feet from the edge of the pond. This pond is used for RC boat racing. My concern with a dozer and excavator is if the 2 operators don't work well together a lot of time could be waisted. This job is being bid by the hour. We are going as wide as $10,000 will allow. Any thoughts?? Thanks, Craig Edit: The pond will be drained partially so that a dozer could bite into the pond edge.

Over the years I've watched teams of dozer/trackhoe operators. If they have worked together for some time, like even several months, and both have 10-20 years experience, it is absolutely incredible how much dirt they can move in a short time. I guess I'd ask around for references and visit some excavating companies. $10K should get a lot of dirt moved in your case.
