Hello all. In ~ 6 weeks or so I will own a new home and ~ 5.25 acres of property on which I hope to be able to build a decent sized (1-2 acre) pond. I have attached a couple of topo's and a google earth image of the property showing where I would like to build the pond. There is some obvious run-off that will feed the pond as well as a natural spring that is directly behind the tree just north of the pond. I am unsure of the type of ground I will be dealing with; but I am hopeful that there will be some clay as there are other ponds and water nearby.

The field in front of the house is in a flood plain and has on occasion seen some water in it from the creek across the road. I would love to hear any thoughts, ideas or suggestions on how I should tackle this project. This is completely outside my wheelhouse and I will need all the help I can get. I am not even sure where to start.

Thanks.

I'd read all that I could here on how to build a pond, muddy water, etc., buy the book "Perfect Pond, Want One" from PondBoss, and also talk to your local NRCS agent about it.
