Im planning on having a small 1/3 to 1/4 pond dug. Ive had my land surveyed and cleared out all the brush and what not with my skid steer. I had a couple pond builders come out and look at where i want the pond and they say it will hold water. Theres a small 60x10 spring pond somebody built already that never has gone dry and flows all year. The thing im worried about is there is some ledge rock where i want to build it. Can the excavator and doser dig up the ledge rock? The flowing spring will be above the water line. Im not sure what to do next i had the pond builders come look at it and they the chances are good that it will hold. Should i just sack up and have them start this fall?

Ask them if there is enough clay to plate 18"-24" thick over the ledge rock.
Those contractors that you talked to, ask them if you can see any of the ponds that they've built, and talk to the owners.
