Few responses or opinions on previous post?
Is this because of lack of experience or.....?

These systems have become quite popular in out N.E Texas area, and I am told are now recommeded by USDA, Natural Resources Conservation Service.

Well I'm not the wealth of knowledge that many of these guys are but agree with you on the Spillway Siphoning System; it's a (one-time)low cost way of
helping to mix the water in a larger body of water. Especially since the cost to do it will be near the same (IMO) as a standard principle (pipe) spillway why not do it on all ponds that are deep enough to need a pipe spillway. I do feel pretty strongly that this should supplement the Oxygen mixing that the proper aerator/diffuser will give the pond. I'm almost positive that Ray Scott's spillway is built this way. It's been a long time since I watched his video series on building his pond but I think that's right.

What are you guys talking about? Emptying water from a pond or mixing it? Bad water out and good water in sounds like mixing and stirring.

Maybe I am not sure what you're talking about George but I thought you were talking about spillways being built with an external sleeve that
goes up over the top of the spillway pipe as in this linked illustration. Virginia Tech Fisheries Pond Contruction
It causes the bad water to run out in an overflow instead of the good water from the top. I s that it?

Mark,
These folks are advertising sponsors of this great forum, so I guess it's appropriate to give thm a plug.

Pond Dam Piping, Ltd. - Conventional PVC pond pipe systems, spillwaysiphon systems and the low "A" watershed system for effective, low-cost water management control. We fit any aquacultural development. Serving the U.S., with nationwide shipping.
Contact: Keith Harris, 398 Eighth St., Macon, GA 31201. Toll-free
1-800-333-2611 or (478) 742-0003. Web: www.pondampiping.com. E-mail: ponddamguy@aol.com

This spillway siphon system takes the “bad” water from the deepest part of the pond when the water level reaches a pre-determined level at the dam, at a lower elevation than the emergency spillway. This system has handled as much as 9 inches of rainfall in a 24 hr period without ever reaching the emergency spillway.

Pond Damn Piping
Your link didn't work but I have them in my favorites. I didn't realize they were out of Macon. That is the same idea but a different design than what was in my link. Thanks

That seems to be a pretty slick system. What other advantages does it have to a traditional spillway other than the obvious that we've already been discussing? Would no fish or as much nutrients spilling (no pun intended) out after a big storm be one?
