Not trying to plug a company or product and I have no ulterior motive for doing so, but noticed a really good price on a motion activated scarecrow on the following site. It appears to be about $30.00 less than what I've seen anywhere else.

http://marvingardensstore.com/

I've had one of these. They work great. I had a wet butt on several occasions to prove it when I forgot it was activated. As soon as realized to turn tail and run I was doomed! Really good to keep animals out of a garden and herons or other birds off of a deck or pier.

It hooks up to a garden hose turned on to provide sufficient pressue. However I don't see why one couldn't set it up anywhere you wanted to with a pressure tank.

Mods if this is inappropriate please feel free to delete.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

The motion activated scarecrow wasn't what I expected. But, this place has some neat toys.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

You were looking for a full size scarecrow that was motion activated? Now that would be cool but probably out of all of our budgets!

I've actually wondered if a scarecrow built of stuffed clothes like they do on holloween would scare off herons -- at least for a while.

Well, that is what I thought it would be. But, you're right on the cost.

I tried the scarecrow thing a couple of years ago to scare off herons and cormorants. I built a stationary scarecrow - straw, clothes, hat, the works - and placed it at the end of a large dock. Came to the pond one day and noticed 3 cormorants in the water near the scrowcrow. I removed the scarecrow the next day.

Squeeky, it might have worked initially but the birds realized it was no danger because it never moved. Birds (animals in general) are more adaptive than people give them credit for.

I placed my first order of a UV Clarifer through Ebay for use in my upcoming outdoor Aquaponics system. I'm pretty sure if I don't use one my fish water will be green with algae. The algae will take nutrients from the plants I want to grow.
