I've seen comments that Redeyes only spawn once a year. Is there a typical time of year when that happens? I stocked our 1/4 acre pond with FHM (lots of fry all over), RES and LMB. Seeing a small group of RES in one are...kind of looks like they're guarding several spots. Is that spawning? The LMB are hanging out at the old christmas tree I sunk...when do LMB spawn? We stocked in April...hadn't seen anything except a few dead ones. All of a sudden seeing a school of FHM, lots of babies, and the groups I mentioned. Something must be going right in there

Generally RES only spawn once per year. They generally spawn when water temps hit 70-72 but will spawn for around a month or more after that... I usually see RES on their nests in early to mid May in my area, you'll probably be a bit later than me being further north. What you are describing sounds like spawning behavior for the RES.
LMB spawn about a month earlier than BG/RES when water temps push into the low 60's, generally early April where I am.
