Can someone recommend turtle traps? I manage a 15 acre residential lake and need to remove the overabundance of turtles. I went on Google and e-bay but need an education first.

Thanks
Paul

Snappers just make a wire trap from wire (chicken wire or heavier) and hog rings. Make a box about three by three with a chute leading in. Make your entrance sorta stiff or he'll eat your bait and may leave smile Square box Put a couple 4x4 holes in the top and set it so the tops only two or three inches under water. They need to get their heads up for air or they'll drown. Chicken is good for bait. Fish will work too. Something that puts some scent in the water.
Leatherbacks. You might catch one in a snapper trap but mostly they'll sun themselves on top of the trap. Caught a lot of soft shells on trot lines so that might be an option.

Good luck with that,
Dan

I have very good luck with the aluminum traps that have boat bumpers as floats. They're available at multiple places for a little over $200. I know Overton's and Boatcycle sells them.

You can also make your own, and I'm sure if you search the board, you'll find plans.

Take a look at this site: TurtleTrap.com

The Sundeck and Solarium versions are what I've seen successfully used around here. They are not very expensive to build.
