New member here and I have been estactic at the amount of information I've already gathered from the site. So thanks already, however I have a question I can't seem to find the answer to.
I've recently volunteered to be on the lake committee for a local sportman's club I belong to. We have been fighting a weed/algea problem for a few years now and it has progressively gotten worse each year with little or no action taken to correct the problem. Diffuser areation is already in future plans, presently it is aerated via a stone. The lake is approximatley 2.5 acres in size and averages about 8' deep, deepest point is 13'.
I've positively ID'd the problem weed as elodea. It is to the surface in a good portion of the pond already however there is a slew of it 3'-4' below the surface working it's way up at this time. Going through the posts it sounds like a mix of Reward/Cutrine along with a surfacant may be the way to go. We do plan on treating the pond in 1/4's to avoid a DO crash however my question is, what is the best way to apply a liquid treatment subsurface or is it needed? Prior copper sulfate applications have been applied via a pump hand sprayer in a boat with less than stellar results from what I have been told. I am concerned a surface spray application may not provide adequate coverage to the yet submerged plants. I would think a sub-surface application would be more beneficial given the above scenario. What is the best way to apply such a treatment sub-surface or should we be looking at a different granular type product. Any help or advice would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

ewest,
Thanks the second one has me pointed in the right direct. The weighted hose idea is one I had also found last night scouring the internet. I have acess to the pipe material so it looks to be relatively straightfoward once you've accumulate the pieces required. I'll let you know how it goes. We may get at it as early as this weekend if the chemicals show up in time.

FireIsHot,
I constructed a boom system like the one on my link over the weekend and adapted it to a 20 gallon lawn weed sprayer with pump & gas motor (just disconnected the lawn boom). Strapping it to the front of the boat and trying it out for the first time this evening on the elodea outbreak. I have my fingers crossed! It worked pretty slick on land on it's dry run with straight water. Hoping it performs equally well in the water 12' down. I'll snap some pics and report back the results sometime by early next week.
And by the way I agree with ya, the info on this site has been fantastic!
