Pond Boss, and fish management icon Bob Lusk's brainchild fishery continues to be the lumbering brontosaurus in the panfish world. Richmond Mill Lake is still producing three pound bluegill. Not to mention seven pound largemouth and two pound crappie. The place is unbelievable. I had the good fortune to spend a few days there recently. Here's a photo of two bluegill that were pushing 13 inches.

Bruce, this is truly amazing. Not many years ago, we thought 9 inch bluegills were special, and a 10 incher was a rare find. Now you are talking about 13 inch bluegills. Richmond Mill is an amazing management effort from Sir Bob Lusk.

Awesome!

Bruce,

How would the sizes compare if the fish were a northern strain of bluegill? Obviously they would still be quite large but would they be as large?

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Look at the tail on this fish! This male was guarding a nest, so I grabbed a quick length and released him. 12.75 inches.

One of Jim Morgan's good friends had his sons there, so they both wanted to be "guided" to their first two pound bluegills. Simple, right. smile

Anyway, one of the boys caught this beautiful 2.25 lb bluegill on a crankbait. Needless to say, the youngster was quite happy.

Cecil, amazingly we catch bluegill that are northern strain that are just as big, and just as robust. We've caught many two-pounders of each strain at Richmond Mill.

Wow that's great! There's hope for mine after all!

Hopefully there will be some pleasant surprises then when I run the seine through the pond in a day or so. I've only seen 2 pound bluegills my customers have brought me and truthfully I don't think they were actually 2 pounds.

Thanks, Bill. Feeling better and doing more. Too soon for a final update, but so far, so good! Thinking of 13 inch bluegills helps. Ha,

BGK, I believe that northern strain BG will achieve those sizes also.

"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"

If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1)
And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1)
Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT?
PB answer: It depends.
