Would Bioverse Aquasphere be the reason for the fish kill? We have lost several bass) I dropped 2 spheres in on Friday and Sunday morning, the fish were dead. It looks like there are many at the surface trying to get air. Any ideas on how to offset this or get it under control. The pond is about 1/2 acre, with an average of 6-8ft depth with one or two 15-20ft holes.

That product touts microbes and enzymes as their active ingredients. Those ingredients would not directly cause harm. Are you aerating, too? Details, please.

No, we were not aerating at the time. We did pick up two submersible water fall pumps that are 5100gph to create temporary aeration yesterday (until we can figure out what we need to do).We cleaned up the fish that we lost overnight, and as of this afternoon there have been approx. 50 more brim 4-5 inches long. I am beginning to wonder if the pond was overstocked. We lost 15 bass, countless brim..the only thing that seems to be hanging in there are the catfish. Also, last week we had a few 90 degree days and Saturday dropped down to 70 with rain. I'm not sure if any of that info helps. Thank you

How many fish are in the pond? When did you stock? Do you have baitfish in there as well? How old is the pond? Did you kill a bunch of weeds? There are lots of causes for a fish kill. Give us some more background.

The reason that most fish die from a description like yours is a pond turnover (hot then quick cooling), and a resulting oxygen shortage and increased hydrogen sulfide (from turnover of deep water). They have a hard time respiring without DO, and hydrogen sulfice is poisonous inlow amounts to fish. The combination commonly occurs and dead fish are the result. Biggest ones often die first. When it is a DO problem, many here say the fish that suffocate die with their mouth open.
