I thought they were supposed to be cute Pic just taken out my back door. Ma and Pa are looking for a handout. 600 feet or so to the west is a Goose Crossing sign. Saw a dead Mallard yesterday in the middle of the road by the sign. Obviously could not read, Geese Only!

What's really cute is watching them waddle as fast as they can to get away right after a shotgun blast hits the water near them! Much as I'd like to kill them for what they will become, I'm not that inhumane. They are cute, after all, and the kids love them! We've been blessed this year with none nesting at our ponds, so only the occasional visitors and occasional waste byproducts!

I normally let a pair nest on the island. After they invited all the relatives last year, I'm keeping all of them off the pond. Some need more convincing than others, but they finally get the hint and leave. It's been a battle this year for sure. Last year they walked thru the woods from a neighbors pond to mine. So far, not this year (yet).
Even the dog swimming after them doesn't deter them.

I have a pair that has babies each year. Right after they are born, all the neighbor's geese come in to visit, but after a few days they leave. I don't mind a few, but would not tolerate a flock for an extended period.

Found out they don't like Pretzels. Whats up with that! Maybe should have tossed them out a couple beers, along with some peanuts, to go with the pretzels

My dog doesn't like pretzels either. I have no idea why. Maybe it's the salt?
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Luna did not like pretzels either. And would never touch a processed hot dog, no matter how well it was disguised.
I don't think salt was the issue. Something else in the ingredients.

Or it could just be as simple as the reality that pretzels simply aren't that good of a snack! Think about it - a bowl of chips and a bowl of pretzels at a party, the chips go first!

The baby Ducks are cute. A whole bunch of them on the North East side of the pond. Left my camera at work. Ma and Pa goose now have eight ugly children! A couple hitch hikers perhaps? They originally had six. Todd... c'mon man... chips without dip? I'm kinda hooked on the kettle cooked barbecued chips of a local brand. My belly would not be a good witness in my defense Think about it... A Pretzel, may one day save your life!!!

Our pair of geese started with 5 and now are down to 3. Don't know what is getting them, but my guess is mink.

I ran three pair of adults off with the dog yesterday. We swim in the pond and I don't want to deal with their mess.

I found that a paintball gun makes for a sporting hunt. Not accurate enough for a "tail" shot each time but it gets them moving. The occassional hit makes for some ruffling of feathers. If they are on the water, it's fun to try to skip the ball into the flock. Bottle rockets are next.........

Works for traing them to stay off the dock too! Easy to hone in on them based on the splash.

A month later: Only 4 left. Are they always this ugly? Nothing cute about baby geese! I should grab my fishing pole and see what is in the pond out back. Probably full of GSF. Hey, did you know that if you say GSF really fast, it sounds like Jeff

When they are really small they are cute, when a huge bass inhales one.
Just do it...
