Did you keep any of the fish?

I can not remember do you like to eat drum?

Saw this fish chase my jig close to shore. Tossed it back out hoping he stuck around. Third cast in the same spot he nailed it.

At least those are your well managed waters. I started my daughter out on the river close to the house as I caught many fish there. Mainly drum and carp, but it was still fun to get out and have a nice fight.

Well back to the story she liked going there and caught her largest fish to date which was about a 5 pound carp, which we had to keep and try to clean without much success. But now if we actually go fishing somewhere her patience is pretty then. I hate it that she has turned out this way but I guess I should have taken her somewhere else to learn as then she would understand it is fishing and you are not always guaranteed fish.

But at the river you are more than likely going to catch something. May not be big enough or fit to eat but usually get some action. She always asks "where was it I caught the big fish daddy, huh, why can we go there, what was it called again" "When can we go back". At any rate I tell her it was a carp and we you caught it right there on the river. All I know is she enjoys going out and asks every weekend if I can take her fishing, I just wish she understood I can not go all the time AS MUCH AS I WOULD LIKE TO, daddy has things at the house we have to get done. But I try to take her as much as I can and just pray she stays interested in going. Such good memories and experiences are formed.

Forgot the fish basket in the car and it was a bit of a hike so we ended up releasing everything.

And drum are delicious.

Josh where are you catching those WE? On minnow/bobber? Those look like nice stocker sizes into Cottonwood Pond!

I do not believe PS genetics are likely on that HBG - not that common down here. 99% certain it's a really nice HBG [GSFxBG].

Desoto. 1/8 jig and minnow. No bobber. Though I may incorporate a slip bobber next trip. Lost probably a dozen jigs at this spot.

Thanks for the ID. That makes 19 species for me this year!

Excellent fishing guys!!And Nate......how cool is that? Poor kids ruined for life though....how do you outdo this?

Give a man a fish, and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer.

At this stage in his fishing career, the little ones are just as important to him, if not more intriguing. "are we gonna take a picture of this one" was the question while reeling in every fish. He couldn't put the connection between what fish got pictures and what fish didnt. They were all special.

When my dad took me fishing it was basically I could come along and pretty much fend for myself and keep myself entertained for 4-8 hrs. When I take my kids fishing, the focus is 100% on them, conversation, answering questions, throwing rocks, searching for frogs, talking about fish, etc and usually even then I only keep these outings 15-45 minutes. This was Noah's first in the boat all day excursion and it did get long for him, but he was so proud of himself for the accomplishment as we prepared and planned for his big day out with the guys.

I have taken this same approach with all 3 of my kids and all of my nieces and nephews and 13 out of 13 are hooked on fishing and spending time with their uncles outdoors.

Eric can you help me find a chart to show what a 27 inch hybrid should weigh? We didnt get a girth but did get the length. One of my friends killed a huge 25 incher today by somehow cutting his gill. The thing had blood in the water everywhere.

James, "Inspired by Nature" website has a good Length/Weigth calculator that I have found to be reliable.
IBN chart for Hybrid Striper:
25 inches - 8.71 lbs
27 inches - 11.09

WOW!!!! cool

James, here is the website but I can’t find the fish calculator download.
IIRC Bill Cody is the one that recommended this site years ago – maybe he can help.

Hit up a buddy's place last night. Crappie were biting when I first showed up, then we went after the cats. Caught three nice ones. My buddy couldn't figure out how to get the glare off the pics taken from my iPhone, but I thought I'd share some of the "Whoops!" pictures...

And this was the best of the evening. 25.5"
