First, I want to say the article "Bacteria, Algea...What's the Fuss About?" was one of the most interesting articles I have read in a while. I found it incredible interesting and educational.
I would just like to know how you can tell what kind of bacteria you are getting (heterotrophic or autotrophic) when you add bacteria products to your pond? I have been using a product called MicrobLift for about a year but do not see where it gives any details about the type(s) of bacteria it contains.

Ok so I have been studying and experimenting extensively with beneficial bacteria for a few years now thanks to Fred, George, Adirondack, Shawn, etc etc.
I have been working with the author Kevin of the above mentioned article with his lab and team aquafix and am super excited about the results we have been getting across the board.
We have developed a full line of pond and lake water conditioners with seasonal strains of bacteria and also an enzyme adjuvant that is a game changer not only for bacterial treatments, but many algaecide and herbiced treatments as well. Our bacteria products are not just bacteria filled with filler, but rather they are filled with vitamins, trace minerals, amino acids, and amino acids to really kick things into gear.
That being said we have general guidelines and recommended usage rates for each product, but each pond as you all know is typically unique. We achieve the best results by sending in water samples and customizing year round water conditioning programs for your specific situation.
We can successfully keep watermeal and duckweed from coming back, breakdown most types of leaf debris, reduce copper usage tremendously, etc with this stuff.

Nate, do you just need water samples, or do you also need a muck sample?

I need to break down oak leaves and rid my pond of duckweed. What do you recommend? Do you need a sample?
