Some of you may have read some of my other posts. I have a 1 acre pond that seems to be bass heavy. It has been unmannaged for a LONG time. I have already started the process of culling out all the small bass. I am probably not being as aggressive as i should but i havent been able to bring myself to cull the 2 pound bass and up. But anything under 14 inches being culled. I havent seen or caught any blue gills in a while. I did catch one HBG yesterday. My neighbor has a pond that is overcrowded with blue gill. Does anyone see a problem with me catching and releasing some of his 6 inch blue gills in my pond as long as i am selective and make sure not to let any Hybrids in. If so how many do you think. I can probably catch a solid 5 gal bucket full in a morning.

You always want to be careful adding fish that haven't come from a reputable supplier due to the potential for disease, parasites, potential influx of unwanted vegetation, etc. However, if the other pond is healthy and the fish all appear to be in good condition, you could consider doing it. Many here will have actual expert opinions and suggestions. One thing you might consider is giving the new BG a salt dip prior to adding them to your pond to eliminate some of the risks I've mentioned. I don't know the right concentrations of salt, but someone will chime in with an idea on it. In the end, it's your choice, and if the price is right (and it sounds to be really right!), you may want to just take the leap and give it a try. With your LMB heavy pond, you'll likely need a pretty large stocker of breeders to avoid instant predation. Depending on the size of LMB you have, 6 inchers may be just fine.

That's the big question, or should I say questions... Is the pond you'd be getting these BG from healthy. Only stock healthy appearing fish. Do not transfer any water from one pond to yours. A salt bath dip is a good idea. Make sure you can readily ID BG as opposed to other sunfish species.
