computer been broke but have pictures of one new pond its a little over 4200 cubic yards and staked by the nrcs. started a 13000 cubic yard pond wednesday and will post pics as i go it will cover over 20 surface acres

Wow, this is going to be a serious pond in a beautiful setting.

essup the pond in the picture is only about 11 ft deep it has a solid rock bottom i dont think u could drive a nail in the bottom anywhere. it cored good but when we moved upstream we hit a rock shelf that began at about the front toe. we had to make the pond wider and wider in the upper end to get enough dirt the one we just started will be about 15 ft deep. with 10 or more acres being 4 to 6 ft deep. its targeted for ducks but should make a nice fishing pond also. there is a major creek very close thats why i'm not making it any deeper. dont want to find any sand if i can keep from it

Yep, I know all about sand. Unless you are willing to put up with 3'-6' water fluctuation, sand is not a good thing.

this is a sneak peak of the 13000 cy pond completed will let the owner post the rest or i think he is anyway. the truck in the picture is parked on a cul-d-sac we built out in the pond along with the point ,about 300+ ft of roadway etc built out in the pond. you can see the nrcs guys checking depth i think they did an excellent job laying this pond out. it is over 20' deep and the dam length was over 1800' long. about 20 acres of surface area.

i will post mpre pics when full if the owner doesnt but i think he will. i felt like this pond had unlimited potential for fish habitat. just a little money on structure around the cul-d-sac and that point would make a huge difference. with 8 acres having the shallowest spot of 6' and deepest of over 20' then the 12 acres being 2' to 6' for ducks should grow weeds etc. for the minnows to go nuts in should add up to very healthy fish.

Sounds like an awesome project! Has the owner already registered on the forum, or is he planning on doing so down the road? Regardless, tell him congrats on such a great looking project!

i'm not sure but i told him about pond boss and he said he would post it so i sent him pics from start to finish. we were done in august so not sure

pics of pond completed today. it was a hard pond to overcome due to continuous water flow from 2 seperate springs then the rocks on top of that. as you can see buy the core picture we went around some of the rocks instead of through them. then we had to flip over numerous rocks to get to the shale to put in the core and build the dam. the owner is not a fisherman but the way them rocks lay in their kinda makes you wonder just how good it could be with that spring water coming in the way it does. its about a 3 acre pond 17' at the deepest the rocks stacked around the hole are about 8' under water. watchin some of the post on how much per yard to build a pond should read how much to build a normal pond not one like this.

when we got done with pond owner wanted a way to pump water from it to his livestock pens. we made a 36" concrete pipe into a manhole it is 8' long we cut a hole 8" off the bottom for the inlet pipe which is 6" and ran it downhill to where when it equalizes with the pond level it will be pulling water from 12' deep. the inlet pipe goes into the manhole at 6' below pond water level and we dont expect this pond to ever get very low due to the volume of the springs.we poured a 8" concrete bottom in the manhole and grouted everything we dont want it leaking so that it will always pull from the 12' depth. we are using a sewer main pump that all you have to do is set it in there with a 90 degree turn about 6' up to tie into water line. this pump doesnt have to be tied in to the inlet pipe it sucks off the bottom and goes. i did this because i'm familiar with this set up and i am definetely open for a better way to do it. i had to build it out in the pond because due to rock we couldnt get 8' deep at shoreline so we moved it out in the pond and formed around it

Tim, Good job of the concrete structure. Notice he did not put it in the bottom of the pond, but up in shallow water areas where structure for small fish should be located. Smallmouth bass love shoreline areas with large pieces of concrete as used by Tim. Often small contractors look for free places to dump waste pieces of concrete.

been cleaning out ponds but felt it was more feasible to just build a new one in one of the pastures. i want to post it because it is an excellent example of a normal pond that can be built properly for $1.75 per cubic yard. its a classic example of the type of pond the nrcs uses to set their pay rates per cubic yard. no trees, no rocks, never had to move dirt more than 200', excellent material. took a little over 21 hours to move approximately 1650 cy and due the finish work putting the topsoil where its supposed to be back on top. its 14' deep and the dam length is 189' probably around 1/4 acre or so. after fighting mud for a couple of weeks it was a pleasure to build.

Tim- awesome project! I noticed you are located in Osage County and named your file "drummond ponds"...did you do this project for the Drummond Family out of Pawhuska? I am located in Northeast Oklahoma and just was curious...

yes les drummond and sons ranch out of pawhuska and hominy. some of the pond cleanouts under renovating a pond were for tom drummond out of pawhuska. OUTSTANDING people to work for! you will see a lot of pictures on here with their name or a pasture name of theirs on them.

i dont know ladd very well i think he is chucks soon. i have heard a lot about that cookbook though
