Wondering from North Texas if it is too late to stock forage fish this year in terms of missing out on reproduction and what that means to my plan to stock LMB this year. Would the recommendation be to go ahead with the forage and then delay adding the LMB next summer?

My water's just gotten above the 70's, and I'm still adding CNB. Don't know where you get your fish, but in addition to the standard 1" to 3" stocker CNB, you may want to add some larger 6" CNB. Mine usually start bedding up in late April, so those may insure a spawn this year.

I won't for a second pretend to be a guru on the forage/LMB subject, but I'm convinced that every month you delay the LMB, and let the forage fish multiply, will reward you long term.

I've made a few mistakes on my lake, and getting in a hurry on the LMB stocking was one of the worst of them. With the growing season we have here in N TX, it's just hard to ever catch up if the forage base isn't established correctly.

Just my two cents.

Now is the time to stock FHM and CNBG as well as RES.
If you stock pure Florida CNBG at this time you will have 9 inchers pushing 1 lb this time next year.

I would wait a year on the LMB but I'm not a bass guy .... HSB is my favorite.... grin

Stock BG/CNBG , FH , GShiners etc now. They will reproduce. LMB at small size 2-4 inch in the fall or wait until next spring. In the deep south you can even stock in late fall/winter with the right conditions.

Agree with all. This is the time.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.
