Hey guys, I haven't posted since I first renovated my pond. It's about 3/4 to 1 Acre pond and I stocked 150 rainbow trout last season. Looks like they all survived and so making the pond 25 feet deep paid off. The problem is the rainbows won't bite. There quite happy eating pelleted food but nothing seems to catch their interest, even fresh juicy dew worms have no affect. I stocked FHM and shiners and there are a few sunfush that migrated from the upper pond to this nice deep pond. The sunfish spawned and guess the fish are getting enough to eat. I was thinking about stocking 100 speckled trout to see if they would be easier to catch, Anybody ever have finicky rainbows like these? Other than dynamite, I don't know how to catch a few to see how they are doing?

Been there done that with browns and rainbows. You just need to match the hatch. Either a couple of pellets wrapped in a piece of pantyhose stretched and tied off so you can impale the pantyhose with a hook, or a Stubby Steve imitation pellet, which are advertised on this site. You don't need very many as they stay on the hook very well.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Get a hook just the right size so the pellet fits in, and use light line throw a small handfull of pellets and gingerly toss your pellet in and be ready the strike is fast, when they hit it snap the rod to bust the pellet and your got um.. basically same as C said match the hatch

If you don't have luck with a rod & reel try making or buying a fish trap, they work well.
If your looking for easier to catch trout try Tigers.

Quit feeding for a week....... I'd bet those fish are super fat with all of the food sources they have. Make'um hungry....They will bite grin.

I've never been able to get a pellet to stay on a hook.

Cecil get a lightwire hook just the right size, dont try to stick the pellet, shove it between the barb and shank, not all pellets fit so you need just the right ones... no weight. Its the only way I was able to get mine to bite after they were lure shy.

They also sell lures for the fly pole, they dont call them pellets, I forget what they call um but they look like a pellet.. those work like a charm but you cant cast them for nothing on spinning gear.

I've had them turn their nose up at a worm, but hit a Little Cleo or Daredevil in RBT color. Lure size was 1/16 or 1/8 oz.
