Friends and family are requesting that I build a fire pit somewhere next to my pond. Would it be nice to have one? Yes. Is it one more thing to mow around? Yes. So, I figure just build a Mobil one that I can hook onto with the riding mower and move around the pond. Anyone ever build or design one?

My family used to own a campground, and we used old semi truck rims as fire pits. Probably still have 20-25 of em'.

My concern with a mobile firepit would be with...how mobile? Just something you can drag around, or are you considering wheels, or skids? The heat from the fire might render any complicated movable linkage or parts inoperative in a short order. A fixed set of skids would seem to me to be the most pratical, BUT.. anything that projects beyond the diameter of the pit itself becomes a safety hazard when approaching the pit to add wood, while cooking, etc.

If you don't want to just drag it, maybe a trailer, or even a custom, removable dolly, or transport, to allow easier movement might work. It has been my experience that projects such as this, while allowing ample freedom to express one's creativity, sometimes involve more time, money, and sweat than is justified by the end result.

Keep it simple.

If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1)
And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1)
Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT?
PB answer: It depends.

I have one that is about 6 x 12 ft. I built it by clearing rocks and just piling them. I cheated some by using my FEL to get some large ones. At one end, I used cement blocks and expanded metal to build a grill.

I generally use it to burn lumber and small brush that dies or that I clip off. Old firewood that I don't get around to burning also goes in.

In the last 20 years I believe it has sunk about 6 inches.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Gravel crushing cones are one of my favorite though not really mobile. I would put soil steralent around it so you don't have to mow really close. The drum out of a washer work good and are easy to move. If you care about it looking good it might not be for you. You could also buy a smaller backyard one for about 150 bucks at stores.
