Hey guys,
I've got a couple game country deer feeders that will feed twice a day(I don't know the duration)....I was thinking about trying to set it up on a tripod out in the water and feed my fish a some food. Will this work adequately or would I be better off going on ahead and purchasing a sweeney or stren? I know that they are more geared towards fish food than what I have and that they are more adjustable as far as the programming goes.....any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

That's what I use and it works fine. Set it out in about 2-3 feet of water and built a fence around it to keep cattle off of the dang thing. Put on a piece of sheet metal on the shore side to make it all fall in the tank. You can screw the metal in to the bottom of the barrel. Coons give it a fit so you may want to put a varmint cage on it.

One more thing. I had to add a piece of wire on the fins on the feeder plate to keep the feed from clogging up. Made it in to an upside down V that sticks up in to the feed and drilled holes in the fins to attach the wire to the plate.

Lee, I think I can help. First Casca made two good suggestions. The plate will help and so does the wire. I know I sold these Game Country feeders for years. I mounted them on tripods legs made with 1 1/4 conduit. You notice that is past tense. I'm now the number one seller according to the manufacture of the Stren feeders in the country. I love these things. It makes my live and the pondowners lives much easier.
A few points... the directional feeders cover more area...they are filled from the shore... they can fed more times per day...easier to adjust...2 year warranty..etc.
If you do decide to order a Stern let me know and I can beat any avail prices. I think you would love 'em.
thanks,Greg

Thanks for the information guys. I went out yesterday to try to set it up on legs in the pond and wouldn't you know with my luck that the dern thing fell over 2x's and the second time it took on a good deal of water and now it may be ruined. I think I'm going to look into purchasing a directional feeder.
btw Greg....I sent you a pm and an email. Hope we can do some business together.

I bought a Strait Shooter from Cabelas and still am trying to get it to work used an 8 inch funnel that I enlarged on the bottom between the 5 gallon bucket I used and the feeder but still clogging up, next step it to add wires as suggested on the vibrator by the above comments to see if that helps, but if I get it working I am gonna miss feeding from the end of the dock every night and watching the cats go crazy!

Bob the good thing is that even if you get the feeder working you can still feed from your dock when you want. I have folks say they like feeding by hand and I tell them they can still do it but the feeder is more consistent even when work gets in your way of feeding the fish by hand. BTW is there a spell check here? When looking over my post I notice all the misspelled words. thanks, Greg

As far as your feeder being ruined, if it had no power (battery) connected, and you have not connected one yet; it is not ruined. Dry it out before using it. Shake it, open it and blow it out. Then let it set in a dry atmosphere for two weeks.
Water and electronics do not mix. But if voltage is not applied when water is present, no damage is done.

I bought a feeder for the Bass Pro Shop for $170. It does have a problem with it clogging up as well. I will try adding a peice of wire to the spinner.
For the ones who have done this, does this seem to work?

A deer feeder will work fine. I rigged a small moultrie feeder up and bought a spreader from Cabela's that I can program how long to run and how many times a day I want.
