I was looking for a way to tag some bass at a small private pond that I fish at to monitor size for future catches.

Take a look on Google for "Floy Tags" or "T-Bar tags"...these are very easy to use. You use a small tagging gun similar to the ones that clothing stores use to put those plastic price tags on clothes. The tags are usually numbered, so you can keep track of each individual fish you tag over time. Usually, the best place on bass to tag them is along the back, just below the dorsal fin.

Get in touch with Greg Grimes here on the forum. He has a tagging system that uses just what was described. Numbered tags or non-numbered tags. I use the numbered ones. They go in the fish towards the rear of the dorsal fin, and you have to make sure the tag goes thru the rays that extend down into the fish so it "sticks" in the fish. I stuck the first tag in a fish in the early summer of 2009. I recently caught one that had the tag all covered in algae. I scraped off the algae and still could read the numbers plainly.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to look into the tagging gun mentioned.

I have the tagging gun from Greg. It's perfect - easy to use, small enough to keep in my pocket while fishing - and great fun to monitor your fish.
