Was reading the long post from bluegillkiller and saw Ted mention about burping the disks. I have 2 Vertex diffusers I bought from Ted a couple years ago and wonder if this is a good idea for a 2 diffuser system also?? And would the process work the same, fully open 1 diffuser and fully close the other for a minute or so, then reverse?? Thanks...

It's called "flexing" the membrane, Ted, not "burping" the discs, sheesh, men! LOL, there should be instructions in your Owner's Manual, but basically with a two diffuser system you would just shut one valve off and run for a few minutes and then alternate and shut the other valve off for a few minutes ~ you can do this a couple of times and then return to their balanced position.

I learned the term burping form Ted couple years agao and stuck with it. It fits well with our southern dialect. If you have larer ssystem turn all valves off but one at a time. We now try to do this at least twice a year for our customers. It does seem to help.

Rex, you have a point. I guess we'll have to change all our literature.

So whether you burp or flex...

Would a new BOW vs an older BOW require more or less of it?
(I do still have my manual but don't recall if it mentioned anything about age of a BOW). Just thinking out loud but if you had a 20yr old pond vs a 5yr old pond. Wouldn't it stand to reason you may want to flex/burp the membrane a little more frequently due to increased muck on the bottom?

I think it would have more to do with how nutrient loaded the water is. More nutrients = faster algae growth. I don't know how the muck would clog the diffusers due to the constantly moving water.

yes biologicials for lack of better water seems to form more quickly on nutirent rich waters. I guess it does no harm so why not just do it 2-3 times per season.

Sorry had no idea I would start an expulsion of air firestorm...hahaha

I do have a fairly rich nutrient pond so think I'll start "releasing" air from my 2 membranes, of course one at a time. And thanks for the info, I too am not sure what happened to my manual from Ted. But can probably get the info from his website too.
