I am having trouble with watermeal, and I have read all about the do's and don'ts of watermeal treatment. My question is probably dumb, but if watermeal takes extremly fertile, nutrient water to grow is there not a way to lower the nutrients in the water by adding something. I have heard that lime is used to lower these levels. The pond is about 40 years old, about an acre in size, and to the lady I bought froms knowledge it has never been drained. I was about to drain it and have it cleaned out. Just thought there might be an easier method...any help.

Lime will not work, as a matter of fact it will probably make the problem worse. Lime improves the qualtiy of the water and the ability of plant to take nutrients out of the water.

your best bet is to treat with a fluridone product.
