Found this on Craigslist and plan to file it away for when I get my pond under control:

I have 1" to 1 1/2" bluegills for sale, $20 per 100. Also 3" to 3 1/2 " perch for sale, $50 per 100. The perch are feed trained.
These fish are in indoor tanks and I can easily dip some out for you. You can transport several hundred home in a couple of picnic coolers.
These fish are ready for your pond. Delivery can be arranged for a fee. I have about 1700 perch available and 12,000 bluegills.
I am a registered type 2 fish farm and all of my fish have been health certified by a Wisconsin licensed veterinarian.
920-667-4395

These fish are raised on my farm, along with cattle and chickens. They are considered livestock by WDATCP (wisconsin department of agriculture, trade and consumer protection).
My fish farm is registered with the State of Wisconsin (registration no. 212059-AQ)
I point this out because the sale of livestock on Craig's List is permitted, and someone has previously flagged and deleted my ad.

That may be a new one, buying fish off Craig's List! Buyer beware when buying on there is all I will say...

CL has it's drawbacks, as well as any other online site like that. It is basically a classified ad, like you would have in the local newspaper, except it is free. You also get to personally inspect what you are buying before you hand over the cash so it is safer than paying online. I just listed a few things on CL and all seems to be OK. It really is nothing more than a classified ad. And if the buyer is stupid enough to hand over cash for junk, then he made a bad choice.

They sell live fish on ebay. A couple forum members sell Tilapia there. Ebay is not ranked very high as a place you want to sell things. I know!

I agree with JKB, CL is fine and you do have the chance to inspect the item before paying. I sold my boat on CL in just 2 days in January.

I just sold one of my air compressors today. Listed it 5 days ago. Cash is always good, and no ebay and paypal fees. Plus I don't have to ship grin

I'd find out exactly what kind of bluegills he has. Are they a hybrid or pure northern strain?

I saw that same ad. There are lots of fish farms around. The ones I buy from bag the fish for me and put oxygen in the bag for the trip and that way you can put the bag in the water for a 1/2 hour or so to let the fish adjust to your water temp. to avoid shock.

Keystone just across the line in Richmond, Illinois has both hybrid and regular bluegills. When would get fish from him (I produce my own now) I got some beautiful bluegills and smallmouth from him.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Yes, Mike Robinson at Keystone Hatcheries has been great to work with. Our sportsmans club has been buying fish through him for years. Family owned business with many years of experience here in northern Illinois ans all of Wisconsin. www.keystonehatcheries.com
