Dwight -- not too many years ago, some storms like the one you describe hit the Duluth-Superior area north of you. A number of residential basements flooded after 4 inches of rain fell in less than an hour. My cousin and the mayor were both impeached from their mostly volunteer jobs because the ditches and 100 year-old sewers couldn't handle the volume of water!

While we were at Pond Boss IV, we had 100 ton of gravel spread on our driveway. When we got back, the driveway looked worse than before we left. Our friend who delivered the gravel thought we might not believe that he actually delivered any gravel. He came over with his road grader to pull lots of the gravel back into the driveway. It still looked pretty bad. Oh well, that is weather. I guess that is why pumps, culverts, and tractors were invented.

Hopefully you and the feline crew have not floated away.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

We could spare a few million gallons. Transportation is an issue.

The pond used to average 10 feet deep. After the last two normal+ precipitation years it averages 12 feet deep.

The latest 4 inch blast has added another 18 inches but that will mostly drain away over the short term.

Is that last section of "dock" a boat? Very cool.

That is the "Barge". Dwight built it as well as the dock from scratch. It is fun to fish from, and serves very well as a platform for him do to his pond projects from.

Good morning Dave, I've checked the ships systems, and everything appears to be running normally.

I am lengthening my depth tube later today. We had another 1.5 inches of rain last night with heavy rain expected today and tonight. I wonder, should I go to 60 ", 72" inches or 84"?

Does it really matter how deep the water is if the river gets higher than the levee between the pond and the river? wink

How deep does the water have to get to flood out the electric on the post?

I went with the 84” tube. Did anyone think less?

Almost 50” this afternoon prior to another 1.15” of rain.

Electrical power is off, just in case.

Dwight, what's the highest that you've seen the water in the pond to date?

The highest was 3 feet below the top of the current berm on the river side of the pond. That occurred in the during the flood of 1993 (I think that was the year). The pond was under construction at that point and we adjusted the height of the berm by adding that additional 3 feet. I have a photo somewhere........

"Electrical power is off, just in case."

You'd better turn the electric back on in case JHAP shows up in his Brazilian Cod Piece.

No worries. Neoprene provides excellent insulation.

You don't want to know how I found this out.

JHAP, are you sure you don't live closer to San Francisco than to San Diego?

56 inches on the depth tube this morning so it looks like we may break 5 feet over what was once considered normal. grin

The pond currently contains around 25,000,000 gallons of water.

Thankfully the rain has pretty much ended for a while.

Naw, still no where near SF. Heck I do most of my shopping on line. The Cod Piece Emporium has a great selection and good prices.

A few years back one of my clients told me that CPA was an acronym for Constant Pain in the, well you know. I'm betting JWHAP would agree.

...and on a more serious note...

That is a LOT of water. Other than increasing the pond size are you noticing any other changes to the pond as a result of this?

Since the water is on the banks in the prairie grasses fish are up in there too enjoying new (to them) delectable critters.

I have gotten to see the 3 foot bronze goldfish that live in the pond. They are up in the grasses rooting around.

All of the American Pond Weed and other pond plants are invisible currently.

My efforts at beach reclamation following the previous gully washer have been defeated.
