I have a storm water runoff that enters my pond at the shallow end. Pond is tear drop shaped. I was think of putting some dwarf cattails down there to help clean up the water as it flows in and give some good cover for forage species. Two qustions 1) Are they gona be a nightmare to controll 2) Will I have to protect them from my grass carp

Well I went and dug some out at my friends house, will post pics when I get home. He has had his for 6 or 7 years and they seem to stay pretty much in one spot. Those bugers are pretty tough to dig out. I am thinking of planting them in large pots, ideas?

Dwarf cattails generally don't get out of control. I doubt the grass carp will cause a problem. There are native species that are also suitable for what you are trying to do such as arrow arum and pickerel weed.
