Looking for a few tips from you guys on how to get a larger yeild traping bg out of my forage pond. I have a 1/8th of an acre pond that is loaded with nothing but 1-3 inch stunted BG. My goal is to turn it into a GSH breeding pond. I built a 2'x2' trap and use dog food, catfood and goldfish crackers in a nylon bag. Goal being trap out as many BG this year and feed them to my Bass pond. This has been going on for almost 2months. Some days I trap 150-200 in a 24hr period. Some days I get two. Average I would say is about 30-40. I noticed when I frist started adding the goldfish cracker my yeild went up but after a few days it averged out. Guys got any miracle bait ideas?

I've found that the best trap bait for me is beef liver.

I use Aquamax pellets in a paint strainer nylon bag. However, I'm not real sure bait is needed.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

I'm traping BG and sunfish. It seems to go in streaks here also. Haven't tried beef liver (thanks will try next week). But one day it's 10 the next its 1.
Do you have your trap on the bottom or off the bottom say 6"?

I set it on the bottom in about 3 ft of water. In addition to the bag of AMAX, I toss in a loose handful of Game Fish Chow. If I only leave it 45 minutes to an hour I catch more. They do escape.

Weather conditions often affect movements and the behavior patterns of fish and how active they are in a water body. This can affect trapping and seining success - similar to angling success. If you keep notes on trapping success and weather conditions including barometric pressure you should see a pattern develop.

Fish will tend to stay in a trap longer as long as there is food in it. When food is gone escape rate increases. Design of trap also affects escape rate and catch rate.
