A couple of muscovy ducks have found my floating dock and the fish feeder that hangs over the edge. They $h!T massive amounts on the dock, causing green mold or mildew-like build-up on the deck boards. I want to scrub down the dock and gangway and re-stain it. I don't want the duck to ruin it again. I'd like to take a .22 to their cranium, but the land owner says he "kinda" likes having them around. Yea, they are nice to look at, but contaminate my dock.

Anyone know of a solution to keep the ducks off a dock? Thanks.

Can you run a wire or fishing line 6" and 12" up off the dock around the perimiter of it? They might not want to fight the line to get on the dock. You might have to make a short gate for the land side of the dock.

I wonder how this stuff would work? I'd definately put tape down first, then apply it to the tape.

tanglefoot

I've also seen stainless steel spike strips that used in marinas to keep seagulls from perching on things.

Guns and ammo

I believe in catch and release. I catch then release to the grease..

Here's something that might work, if you wanted to cover a larger area you could add line to the ends of the rotating arms.

I had the same problem. They eventually left on their own, BUT 4 years later.

I believe they are there to avoid predators.

Perhaps an alternative safe place to roost might work. Or getting into the fertilizer bidness. They sure can crank it out.

Good suggestions. I'm thinking put up 2' high chicken wire around the dock. Hopefully they won't fly over it. Chicken wire will cost about $50.00 to totally surround the dock. The bird repeller seems interesting as well. I'll do some Googling on that subject. Thanks for the suggestions.

You might want to ask "The Bird Man" Mel Toellner. He has an article in Pond Boss this month. He was also a speaker at Pond Boss 4 convention. www.songbirdstation.com
