Since I stocked 1000 cnbg and redear and 1000 fat heads in the 2nd week of feb 06 Im not seeing anything except 4 bass my neihbor put in. I feel like my water is good the 4 bass that lived in there the past 2 months were thriving. Very healthy looking fish. Did they eat all my bream and my fatheads or did they go out the overflow pipe? Have a good idea thats where the fh's went before I was able to put a net around it. My question is this. Can I just go catch about 10 nice looking bluegill and put in my pond and try to get a spawn? We saw bunches of fry the other day but im about 100% sure these fry are from the spotted bass. because 2 that we caught were swimming right off the bank as if they were gaurding the fry which is why they seemed to be easy to catch IMO. These fry have me worried. I dont wont a pond full of spots. and draining is not an option.we caught some of the fry in a jar and tried to raise them in an aquarium but they didnt make it. If someone had some pictures of fry I could see maybe I could identify them. Just really dont know for sure. But still is the stocking of a few adult bream something I should try. We've been able to catch some giant bg around my parts. And I feel Like I just need a decent spawn of bg before I put my tigerbass in this summer. And man I aint seeing a thing as far as bream or fh's go. But I have tadpoles in Biblical proportions, insects the same. Even turtles frogs and snakes just no bream or fh's. Any thoughts from you guys will be greatly appreciated. Maybe somethin from that funny theo could cheer me up.

It appears to me that you ought to be seeing some fish activity by now. If it were me, and it's not, I would be going nuts and would restock on bluegills and fatheads.

Somehow my prior post went away.

Here is a link to some pics of small BG. See if this helps.

Sir what we scooped up was much smaller Id say
3/16" at most and either wasnt "AS" developed as what I see in your picture or they are the spotted bass.
The fact that these 2 spotted bass stayed in a back and forth pattern really "ALL DAY" as if coraling them (for lack of better words} just really made me think that they were 2 males protecting there young. 1 on each end of the dam. They had no fear of us as we could almost reach out and grab them every time they swam by. we eventually caught them on a green lizard. Put up a GREAT FIGHT!
I went down today to try and get more fry but couldnt see any. I'll try again tomorrow and maybe get some pics.

No need to use the word sir. We are all on equal footing. Did you see the 15mm BG fry/yoy in the pic here it is just in case. If they get much smaller than that you can hardly see them in the water.

Here are 2 LMB fry/yoy but a little bigger than what you may have seen. When smaller they look like these only smaller and clearer (less color)until they get so small they are unrecognizable.

Until they get to the larva stage like this.

actually they were very hard to see. My brother just happened to be looking very closely at the crazy amount of tadpoles, and just happened to see them. Ill have to say they were to small to compare to these pics but ill keep trying to get some more fry. Sure would be awesome to find out they are baby bg. My brother is betting on bg after lookin at your pics but im still not quite convinced.

Im from central alabama an i stocked 1500 fathead minows 2000 BG/RES, first week of march .i put out some pallets for the fatheads to spawn under. dont think they really liked them \:\( .but they did spawn all up an down the bank in shallow water an in the top of my sunken christmas tree tops. now i have a gazillion of them from .25 to 1.5 inches long swimming everwhere. every 6 days i have new fry an 2 days later a have bunch of new eggs. Did notice some BG spawing sites around the banks BG appear to be 2.5- 4 in long now. They were stocked from the state so they were small .75-1 inch.when stocked.
So you diffenllty got some thing going haywire. i dont know how far you live from pond but i go out around 8:30-9:00 pm with a bright flashlite an shine into the water at the banks an you can spot the fatheads an baby BG laying along the bank in 6-8in of water.

Good luck ;]

Ive been getting down there in the daytime. Ive thought maybe I should comeback at night and do the spotlight deal. Maybe during the day they are off in the deeper part?

yeah think so ive only seen 1 Bg during the daylight hours an only little fathead fry. But at night i see alot of them sleepig around the bank.
mainly 2-4 inch size. Think the bigger ones are staying deeper around my sturctue.
