Just finished another fiction novel by two of my favorite authors. Looks to me like the authors aren't anglers as they listed one of the bait items for sale at as Louisiana bait store as "spawn." Also mentioned an angler after big bass in a swamp backwater saying he wouldn't use beemoths like his friends as he was only into plastic baits.
Unless I'm wrong spawn (salmon egg roe) is pretty much an item we use up north for steelhead and salmon fishing. Or is there something similar in the south?
I do know better than someone fishing for double digit bass with beemoths, although I have seen incidental catches up here with them while ice fishing for bluegills. Do you folks even use beemoths in Louisiana, and if so, do you even call them beemoths?
Granted fishing was just a passing mention in the book, but it disappointed me the authors didn't do their homework. Of course both are big city guys.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

They sell roe around here for bait but I'm the only person I know who ever tried any. The TPWD stocks winter trout in city ponds and tailraces below dams in winter.
I went after some runt trout once with salmon eggs. I thought you were supposed to do it that way. I didn't get a bite. Then I saw some decked out fly fishermen catching a lot of fish. I noticed that they were using whole kernel corn. They gave me some, i caught my limit of 5 8 to 10 inch trout and called it a day.
I've never heard of a beemoth.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Boy, if I say "sic em", you'd better look for something to bite. Sam Shelley Rancher and Farmer Muleshoe Texas 1892-1985 RIP

Ah... Good old "yellow hatch". That was our code name for canned whole kernel corn in college when I used to fish for stocked trout up there. Stocked trout sure do love it, especially when you chum them up a bit with it!
Someone would ask what we were catching the trout on and we'd say "yellow hatch". You gotta match the hatch to catch trout.
