I am working on a big land renovation project and the owner would like to have live camera feeds out in strategic places around the farm like his food plots and fish feeders and even underwater. We would like to be able to watch these feeds live inside the lodge.
Anyhow I am starting to research what options are available and just curious if you guys have any experiences or advice whatsoever with this sort of application? We are looking for the highest quality live feeds possible and if that stuff can be digitally recorded even better.
Any ideas of where to start?

We definitely want as high of quality as possible, but value for the dollar is always a consideration. Here is a map of the improvements we are doing for this season. Currently the ground is being converted from a mixture of tillable and pasture to food plots and cover. The lakes all have their own theme as well- trout lake, smallmouth lake, big bluegill lake, crappie lake, hybrid striped bass lake, muskie lake, big bass lake, etc.

Nate I have a contact that deals in cameras for mfg applications using compressed video that you can watch on a iPhone. I'm not sure if he has anything for outdoor/underwater applications.
I will check for you as I will see him next week.

Nate check out Buck eye cam its a wireless trail cam for your food plots. Where is the lodge on this property? If you do cable at all put them inside poly pipe so if something gets chewed or damaged you can pull a new cable down the pipe easy.

Blair, we are looking for better quality than buckeye cam, also with more of a focus on live feeds rather than snapshots of motion detected video clips.

I would check into high dollar wireless security cameras. I would check with area security installation firms they will point you in the best direction and help alot..

If you can't find anything local, I can point you to a company I have worked with that does security camera installs that are high end and with incredible pictures. Not sure if they have an underwater camera, but knowing the company they can make it happen.

I would think a constant live underwater feed would get Algea build up quickly

so than lets think of ways to either keep algae from building up quickly or solutions to wiping off algae easily

One of my duties involves managing a networked video surveillance system. I'm on the law enforcement side of the house, but I've been in enough of the I.T. meetings that I have learned enough to be dangerous. I am a huge fan of the ONSSI software package. For all intensive purposes, the software is free. You pay a license fee for each camera you import into the system. It is a scalable system that works great for systems with one camera or hundreds of cameras.
Axis and Sony both have some excellent price point cameras. A year ago, Axis had the edge, but today I think Sony has the best bang for the buck. H.264 is the current gold standard for video compression.
Power and network access is the first question to be answered. Is there power? I have a few rapid deployment wireless cameras to toss up during a major special events. Battery life is around three days without some type of charging.

How many cameras are we talking about?
Besides live feed and high quality, what other features are you looking for?
Auto scanning, tracking, ID, measurements, calculated weights, animal profiles... The list can go on and on and on...
Any other automation required on this property like monitoring water quality, aeration control, pumps, weather stations, backup systems... Again, the list can go on and on and on...
Whatever your client is dreaming of, It can probably be done... for the right price.
Sounds like a fun project!
