Folks, I am so glad I found this forum. I just put in a new pond 3/4 acre 10'-13' deep and she is almost full of water. I will be reading through the great knowledge base here but if anyone can offer some suggestions for the following:
1. Should I stock FHM now?
2. Should I buy a feeder / food? if so any recommendations?
3. I am thinking of putting in a Windmill, any suggestions?

Paul, stock the FHM now and let them breed for about 6 months. Put some flat structure in if you don't have any. They lay their eggs up under the flat surface in about 12-18 inches of water. I use a texas hunter feeder. It's a bit more expensive than other but you get what you pay for. You can also put in some BG now also. Read some of the threads on the main forum page. You'll learn more there than I can tell you.

I would first think about what you would like to have in the lake as game fish. Based on the predator you select then you can decide what type of prey to use. I would say FHM are a safe bet for all predators but will not be your only forage fish in most cases. You should find someone in your area and discuss both your goals and your first move for stocking.
I think personally aeration is the most underutilized management practice there is. Aeration provides many benefits including eliminating the thermocline, increasing dissolved oxygen throughout the lake, reducing aquatic vegetation, and improving overall water quality. You will need to also discuss this with someone in your area and determine if wind, electric, or solar aeration is best for you and your lake.

What part of Texas? It matters on water quality. You might have to treat it before stocking.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.
