How can we respond Eric to your query on the government shutdown thread? You already closed the thread! Or is it just me?  BTW I didn't witness an incivility, pointing at any particular politician or party either. Seems we're all on the same page. O.K. I'm backing off, I see the stun gun coming.

Ken, I'm sorry to hear the troubles that it's caused you. I hope in your turmoil you will have an extra cooler (or least an empty one for the trip home).
What I don't understand is that for people on a fixed income, energy and food aren't figured into the cost of living. Then, Congress can vote themselves raises. If a private company were to increase their costs (i.e. salary) without increasing performance they wouldn't be in business very long.

I am no fan of DC but maybe having two parties with different views worked this time. The budget was cut big time so the democrats can't spend so much on socialist programs, and the republicans were not able to get their high morals imposed on the rest of us. Who would think to look to DC for moral guidance? It will be interesting to see where the cuts will come from...

I saw an visual analogy of what they were quibbling over was a dot on a dollar bill with the dollar bill being the deficit. That about sums it up... In the end, it's a big smoke and mirror campaign! Most people will buy into it and elect the same fools again, and again, and again...
