Ok so I dug my pond in august and it is now full it is 3/4's of an acre and has a average depth of 10'-15'. I have a good amount of structure in 2 areas of the pond at all diferent depths. This structure consits of home made porcupine attractors, PVC trees, brick piles, milk crate huts, and rock piles. Pond is aerated and will have a feeder. this is what i came up with putting in it. your thoughts and sugestions please.
50- LMB 3"-5"
50- YP 3"-5"
400- BG 3"-5"
100- RES 3"-5"
50- CC 3"-5"
15pounds of FHM

A weeks worth of vacation, 59 hours in a John Deere 160, 2 logs of Skoal, 1500$ in fuel, Lots of help from the neigbors and my old man, and a wife with an open mind to let me dig a pond at are cabin. All i can say is life is good!

I'd stock FHM, BG and RES and CC this year. Hoping that the FHM will be able to multiply. The rest next year.
If the LMB and YP go in this year, they'd be feeding on the stocked FHM. I wouldn't want them feeding on any of the stocked fish. Their YOY, yes. I know it's a Northern Pond, but I don't think that the BG/RES will get ahead of the LMB too much.
Would the LMB and YP be feed trained fish??

essup, I keep seeing feed trained fish on the different topics. does this mean they come from the hatchery feed trained or am I planning on feeding them? only dumb question is one not asked! please fill my brain with knowledge. I also could wait a year to put the LMB and YP that would not be a problem.

Hey Joker,
I am no expert of this subject but from what I have read feed trained fish come from the hatchery that way. Now don't get me wrong there are guys on this site that have and can feed train wild fish in a pond also, but it's much harder to do so especailly LMB! BG and SF, RES they will eventually take to the food, but LMB from what I have read on this site are hard to crack once they have had live bait for so long! Like I said I am no expert and I am sure essup can fill you in better.
The only difference between a rut and a Grave is the depth. So get up get out of that rut and get moving!! Time to work!!

RC51 got it right. Wild RES are harder to feed train than BG, but it can be done.
Feed trained fish are fish that are fed pellets as they grew up. For instance, I talked to Jones Fish last year and while they have some LMB that are feed trained, not all of them were, and their RES were NOT feed trained. (again, this was what they said last year)
It's much harder to train fish to eat pellets than it is to buy them already conditioned to eating them.
