and you live in Northern Indiana, Southern Michigan or Northwest Ohio I've always been very happy with fish from Laggis Fish Farms in Gobles, Michigan. You can't beat his feed trained yellow perch and largemouth bass but he sells walleye, smallmouth bass, hybrid bluegill, northern pike etc. although some of these species are only available in the fall.

I'll be picking up an order of 200 5 to 6 inch yellow perch in a couple of weeks to replace the ones I lost in a RAS mishap. Dan Laggis has told me orders are down a little so far so now's your chance to get some outstanding feed trained yellow perch while they last. One of these perch grew to state record size for me! They're originally from Ohio and are Great Lakes stock (Lake Erie).

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Thanks for the info Cecil.

I was going to hit Stony Creek when I am ready, but I'll check them out.

Boy, the internet at work is pretty fast. Don't have to wait for a post to submit.

Cecil...I sent you a PM for a really good YP source..up to 12" readily available and 100% feed trained. I've stocked a lot of them and had excellent results.

Cecil:

Mikey in North Liberty stocked some of their feed trained LMB and they are doing exceptionally well. Still on the feed 2 years later. Maybe this will prod him to post a pic of one that he caught a few days ago. While not on feed for the past 6 months, they must have been feeding on something!

I sure surprises me they are testing large yellow perch for VHS, which is required for interstate transport. I wish I would have known that.

I'm already committed with Laggis anyway and I'm only paying about $2.00 a piece for the fish. Thanks for the offer though.

Scott, I have no idea. They are raised in a series of ponds and indoors in a converted Dairy facility....no runoff for the ponds. All rain and well water.

All eggs are gathered and hatched indoors plus raising all the fry indoors. They are grown out in interconnected ponds. The only other fish this place handles are White Amur up to 20 inches kept in cages.

This is a fish from Laggis. Caught this Sunday. Stocked June 2009 at 6" to 8". I am guessing this one was 14" - 15".

The LMB I purchased from him have stayed on the feed from day one. They are the first to show up when I go out to feed. I feed by hand and I have 25 or so LMB follow me around for the pellets. I have been very happy with these fish.

I transported them myself. Drove to Gobles, he bagged them up with O2 and my daughter and I headed home. About a 1 hour drive. Purchased 125 fish and we did not lose 1.

I am manageing for big BG, so after the bass spawn this year, the bigger LMB are coming out. I bet there will be some 4 pounders by that time. Someone is going to get some nice fat feed trained LMB for their pond wink

Who shoves whom out of the way when the feed hits the water? LMB or the HSB?

I'd like to see what the HSB look like this year.

The LMB always put the feedbag on first. They are the pigs. Once they slow down, the HSB start in. If I throw food in close and out further, they eat at the same time. The HSB should be pretty impressive by the end of the year!

Mikey, I wish I'd known you were stocking the HSB and ftLMB... If you want more, the first 2 weeks of April I'll be in the general area taking a bunch of species to northern Ohio...HSB, BG, RES, YP, CC, FH, GSH, 1-3# ftLMB...All fish are still health certified, but except the YP, none are from Great Lakes states so testing isn't even required. Let me know...most sizes are available still, but going quick with the fish kills this winter.

The Tilapia runs near you will be the last week of April to the first week of May and again near 5/15.

Most likely close to 2 years of age.

Rex, put me down for the first Tilapia run. My neighbor wants some GSH, I'll PM you with his number. I believe if you talk nice to him he'd let ya slide 'till the end of April when you're here with the Tilapia if you'll have room on the truck. It's the guy across the street who was supposed to get the RES.

PM sent
