Hey, Maybe my test holes will have some water in them this spring! The sun is shining right now. Getting ready for round two of pushing and piling up snow. I should have listened to my BIL and made the driveway straight

Yes. I did spend 4 hours plowing the drive. I normally would not spend that much time, but I wanted to make it really nice for any friends that might want to stop by and do a little ice fishing. Maybe I should just leave the drifts and have all the fishing to myself It is also nice to have a place to park so friends can leave their modes of transportation safe and sound while they are hauled to one of the primo goose hunting spots in the county!

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Snow successfully removed from the satellite dish. Even in a 6 foot snow drift you only sink down to your crotch. 10 steps through that are equivalent to a half mile walk on snow free ground aerobic-wise.

I know you had to do a good job because the wife couldn't get in the garage earlier this year because of the slippery slope. You cleaned off a good sized area because you need someone to drill holes for you, don't ya? Still can't use the uger 'cause of the shoulder surgery, right? So, it looks like I'll be over @ 8:00 a.m. Friday. I got the text tonight from the manager to be at the farm at 8:30 a.m. If you can't make it on Friday, hopefully there will be some birds left for Saturday. The neighbor last night was on his way to work @ 11:00 p.m. and only made it about 3/4 of a mile before getting his Tahoe buried. He couldn't see the road and ended up about 15' into a guys front yard. The snowplow deposited my mailbox in my driveway, which is about 30' from the mailbox post..... I was out there for 5 hours today, but also hit 2 of my neighbors drives as well. One needed the drive cleaned ASAP because the honey wagon was coming over on an emergency call. Septic tank was full and the shower was starting to fill up. Even with the wind, we had about 12" stick to the ground here.

We ended up getting dumped on by the lake effect, yesterday. We got a solid total of 20" and possibly 24", over the past two days. Drifts are 3-5' deep.

I saw that lake effect band set up just West of my place. It shifted a bit last night, but only got a couple of inches before it petered out.
Got the mailbox temp fixed, will do a Remove and Replace when it warms up this Spring. I gotta figure out a way to install a snowplow shield for the winter that doesn't look cheezy.

Got the mailbox temp fixed, will do a Remove and Replace when it warms up this Spring. I gotta figure out a way to install a snowplow shield for the winter that doesn't look cheezy. Our mailbox at the shop got nailed 2 or 3 times a year. The post was steel and the box mounts were wood. The box would go flying and all of our business mail was scattered everywhere. Tax documents, checks, invoices, bills... Some of the stuff we never found till after the snow melted. I got tired of the wood mount and formed up an 11ga mount and riveted it on with 1/4" dia rivets. That worked, but I had to beef up the door/hinge area because that got taken out a couple of times. I was going to make my mailbox post out of a 7ft long chunk of 4" structural pipe and cement it in. But there are liability issues with that. I was also told today that the 6 foot pile (wall) of snow at the end of my driveway is a liability issue due to snowmobiles that may hit them. The sheriff said that snow piles have to be clearly marked with at least reflectors. How the hell am I supposed to do that! In our county it is legal to operate snowmobiles on the road. Why do they have to travel on my property. Are they exempt in some way from trespassing? A couple years ago, my sister had a drunk launch his sled off of one of the piles out front and messed the sled up pretty bad, he was not hurt. They put up an orange plastic snow fence this year along their driveway and a couple days ago some nut went right through it. That was before the big snow hit and it was clearly defined. Totally nuts I tell you!

That's messed up. Here in Indiana we have better property rights. I can't imagine that being the case down here.

I just wonder how intelligent this cop is. He just could be one of the nuts that fly through here. And snow walls out front ruin their fun.

The snowmobiles are going around right now. They would be pissed off if I filled the tank up again and made the snow wall 600 feet long. Might take two tanks to do that. Got me a nice Fort started. Who says you cant have fun in the snow!

Snowing here today. After 4 days of driving on ice we finally had some clear ruts. Now they're covered by 3 inches of snow.
We usually get ice but not much snow. I know of no municipality that has snow plows and we have a lot of overpasses. Due to it's corrosive nature, salt isn't used but sand is. Thus, the ice doesn't get melted but we have some traction on bridges and intersections. D/FW will be pretty well shut down again. This will be our 5th day in a row that the temps have not gotten above freezing. I don't remember the last time this happened. Tomorrow, the highs will be in the low 40's and this stuff should go away.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

I hate driving on ice. You always see the overconfident jerk in a big suv hauling butt down the road Twice, once when he passes you, then again when you pass him while he is in the ditch A train derailed in the town of Grant, MI, just east of here due to ice build up on the tracks. The ironic thing, it was hauling Calcium Chloride (ice melt).

I am happy to admit that I don't know how to drive on snow or ice because I've never had to learn.
Come to think of it, I don't know a whole lot about driving in rain.

I went ot work this morning to do payroll but came back to house after. we had about 7 inches of snow here in Irving. People here don't see enough snow and ice to know how to drive on it. Makes me glad I have 4WD!

4WD is really bad on ice unless you have tire chains. Really easy to loose control. I only put my truck in 4WD if I absolutely have to. Glad I dont have to get out and lock the hubs!

Makes me glad I have 4WD! Finally stopped here with some blue starting to show through the clouds, looks like we had 6-8" more here near Denton. Meteoroligists got it wrong again last night predicting only 1". A silly neighbor took out his own mailbox this morning with his WRX STi. A Subaru may be good for snow, but not a performance modified one with a nut behind the wheel.

Definitely going to straighten out the main driveway. The curves add character, but are a PITA to clean out with a big snow event.
I'll still leave a big curve in and run the drive straight up to where the garage is going. A small irregular shaped pond in between would really be a nice feature.

Especially if you don't install guide stakes to mark the outside of the driveway and try to remove snow by memory. Make sure if you do, that they are higher than the snow. Made that mistake once..... #4 rebar and snowthrowers don't mix.

#4 rebar and snowthrowers don't mix. Well, I would guess they actually do mix, just not terribly well!

I really am looking forward to reshaping things. A small pond between the curved driveway and the proposed straight one would be really cool. Gonna start building this spring, and I am really glad I did not do something stupid earlier. I still could screw it up

Was going to head to the farm yesterday to do odds and ends. Glad I call the neighbor first. The road leading into my driveway is drifted shut with 4 to 6 foot deep drifts. It is a deadend road that noone lives on (yet, I planning on building this spring). Guess I am stuck in the Chitown area till some of this stuff melts and the township can get a plow in there. He didn't make it back to my polebarn and trailer so after the road is clear there maybe a lot more to do. Come on spring

The sun is shining here and temps are forecast for mid to upper 30's Saturday and Sunday. So, the snow should go and SB visitors can get flights in.
Another round of nasty weather is forecast for midweek here. I would like to get to my place 70 miles North before it hits but figure the roads will be a sloppy mess.
