Absolutely not!

Some people learn by burning their fingers. Some people learn by watching their friends burn their fingers.

Most of us can learn from both, although it is a lot more fun when . . .

Besides, if we can't make fun of ourselves, and we can't make fun of our friend's mistakes, we'd lose a lot of daily humor. Worse yet, we'd never get to really know and understand our friends.

We all do crazy things now and then -- and sometimes we do crazy things quite regularly.

Just think how boring life would be if we didn't know!

Yeah but don't take a newbie out in the coldest weather of the year. I did it once with a guy I took guitar lessons from. He never went again and probably never will. grin

I like to break people in later winter when you can ice fish in your shirt sleeves.

I agree 100 percent! If I didn't I wouldn't have posted it.

What I found even more amusing about it was how many southerners think falling through the ice is akin to dying when we northerners know better. Yes, it's not good but if you know what you're doing you can usually get out and scold yourself. I've done it twice now. grin

You evidently either didn't scold yourself harshly enough the first time or you just plain weren't taking any of your crap and had to learn the hard way! grin

That was one of your best, Todd!

DJT had a super funny one on a kind of suspect thread. It was the one where some guy had come on here and then started up another pond forum. He really seemed to be asking and answering his own posts, and DJT took it and ran.

I've got an excuse. My swimming days were when I was trapping young and stupid. Cecil has been "swimming" MUCH more recently than I have. grin

The one trip that I took I literally swam from one side of the ditch to the other, with trap still in hand. About 30' wide, 3' or so of water, and a VERY loose mucky bottom under that. Standing was impossible, I really did swim across that one to get out. I was with a friend who could drive, and we had his car. We beat feet for home and I jumped in the shower with all my clothes (incl. jacket) on. I remember pulling out a freshwater shrimp from my pocket, along with a handful of muck while in the shower. Mom & Dad didn't start yelling until after I got out of the shower. wink

When asked if I would do it again I said yes if there was enough money on it and I'd even donate it to the Jesse West Foundation. Interest floundered though when I said I'd find a speedo to wear for the event. blush

O.K. I'll make a concession: How about a cod piece? smirk

Hey Dave! I just saw a national weather report. It looks like in the next couple of days you will be able to experience ice fishing and the effects of kissing a frozen flag pole -- all without leaving Texas. grin

Hovering around 5 F this morning around 7:45AM.

30 F feels balmy.

Raining
Heavy rain to come. mad

I'm still at work near Dulles Airport. Weather is just as bad:

29 degrees
Raining
Heavy rain to come. mad

I need a new career! cry

I guess I should have taken that job offer in 1974 to work in the outskirts of Mule Shoe, TX. grin

Don't worry, Muleshoe has the same forecast pretty much and will be -2 tomorrow night: http://www.weather.com/weather/today/USTX0929

Wednesday's Muleshoe, TX Weather
Cloudy with a 20 percent chance of snow. Highs around 13. Northeast winds around 15 mph. Lowest wind chill readings 14 below to 24 below zero in the morning.

I'm glad I'm in the cold and frozen north. We have houses, clothes, and a mindset to live with Muleshoe's weather.

That is awful weather.

Have you guy's thought about moving north, where we are prepared for winter weather?

Kinda odd to think it will be warmer in MI than Texas.

Not too unusual when considering the North plains. Dang cold up there.

Did you guys hear the one about 2 Russian soldiers walking guard duty in a Siberian blizzard? One told the other "Man, it's cold."

The other answered, "Yeah, but aren't you glad you're not in Amarillo?".

We have about an inch of sleet/snow/freezing rain. Now starting to snow and in the mid 20's.

The D/FW area is just about shut down. 30 to 50 mph winds and 300 flights cancelled at D/FW Airport, some due to weather elsewhere. We will be below freezing for the next 80 hours. This ain't going to please the Superbowl crowd.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Dude, the Superbowl crowd is used to that kind of weather.

With respect to the weather it's not the Pack and Pitt crowd you should worry about but the locals. Texicans (and others as well) driving on ice is a concern. If everything is shut down it will be tough but I guess the Pitt and Pack crowd can just hike to the game. At least it will be nice in the stadium.

Why would you want to sit outside in the cold for entertainment anyway? grin My idea of entertainment would be to sit in a heated ice shanty watching it on TV catching fish at the same time!
