1) Bowfishing

2) Cautious firearms usage

3) Rod'n'Reel fishing using cherry tomatoes, cabbage, lettuce, (insert vegetable du jour) as bait.

Most GC respond quite positively to pelleted fish food; this can be used to get them used to regularly being in the location where the feed is placed. I have had them come close enough to me at the end of a dock, eating pellets, that spearing would have been a real possibility.

DO NOT try to seine them; Dr. Frankenbruce reports they will jump seining nets at a high velocity. A 30+lbs GC at 20 mph can be dangerous to a man in the water.

If rod and reel fishing, get ready for a unique experience. It's like hooking onto a very violent freight train. I doubt that you will catch over one per outing. Be sure to properly adjust your drag.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

It took me a while to find this out by trial and error, but my grass carp go crazy for what my wife calls "gummy white bread" (like Wonder Bread). About a 1-inch ball of the bread formed around a circle hook gets a grass carp on within about 30 seconds in my pond. No sinkers, no bobbers, just the bread ball.

Make sure you've got heavy line -- probably at least 15 lb. test. Mine will fight like mad for about one or two minutes, then they just collapse and you have to drag them in.

Good fishn'

I caught mine in a seine but it wasn't nearly as big as the one above. Have also had success in other ponds using dandelion flowers with a small circle hook and no weight. Caught 1 the first year on a fly. Seems as though a trotline baited with assorted veggies and dough might be worth a try in your case.

Hiring someone to electroshock the pond is another possibilty. In talking with one of the states biologists here this week I learned the GC are a lot like trout, getting hit with the shock boat frequently kills them.
