I like how the exemption states.. Sited "NEAR" domestic.. Near to me is within a mile or two. It's all relative, baby! I could defend you on that one! Spoken like a true litigator!!!! EXCELLENT!! could "NEAR" BE any more subjective??

After it falls off under that antler trap, huh? With a rack like that, any way I can (legally that is) will be fine with me!

In PA you cannot keep antlers that come off because of an antler trap... You have to pay $10 a point to keep them. Only "naturally" shed antlers are legal to keep. Ridiculous huh?

I'll bet you can find silly laws in every state. I agree with you!

The bigger question that I have is how the trap really works. I get the general concept, I think, but am wondering how you choose where to set one up and what sort of considerations go into the process.

The theory is that the antlers get looser gradually and that when they're feeding they will bump them on the wire, making them fall off in a certain area. I haven't found any yet. Other people make a "W" with woven wire fencing, placing corn on the inside of the "W" near the inside points, and the deer will do the same thing as they try to get to the corn. I was told how to make this particular style by a guy that lived in Mt. He said make a triangle 2' on each side, with the bottom of the wire 2' off of the ground.

Interesting. I may give that a try next year. I assume it could be advantageous to set one up in an area where there have been tree rubs. Think they may be more liable to come eat if they don't have to leave the safety of the woods?

I don't know if by rubs would the best.. Rubs are usually for deer to identify other deer around rut, and often checked from long distances. Best place for food would be near thickets/bedding area or on heavily used trails from bed to water/food..
I believe in catch and release. I catch then release to the grease.. BG. CSBG. LMB. HSB. RES.

Todd, they'll feed any hour of the day or night in thickets or woods, but out in the open they'll be a lot more shy during the day.

My experience is that anything moving in front of the camera, weeds, branches, etc, can and often will trigger it. Thus, lot of pictures of nothing. I've gone almost exclusively to Cuddebacks but the newer Captures aren't in the same class as the older model Excites.
I use a 2 x 4 in a bucket of concrete for mounting a camera. I move the bucket when I go to a different location. However, I still have to drive in a T post and wire the bucket mount to it. The hogs knock the bucket over.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

the traps have helped for clients gather some antlers. Todd disappointed to hear this. The d-55ir has been awesome investment for my clients. Good luck getting moultrie on the phone but I would call them. This model is comparable to the primos truth cam 46 and better than the 35 i believe. There are some cool cams coming out. I did my research at the tradeshow about a month ago and will pass on info late summer. I really like one coming out by Leupold.

Thanks, Greg. I think the explanations given to me here make a lot of sense so I set it back out with a clear path and a big pile of corn to draw in the photographic subjects! I'm going to pull the camera again in a few days to see what we got this week before getting concerned about the performance. I bet this will be the difference.
