I wonder why out of 6736 registered users that 3480 of them have only posted 1 time or 0 times?? Were they in a blackout when they registered? Have that many of them sold their property or lost interest in the pond or figured it all out overnight the day after they registered or perhaps fallen into a coma or tragically lost the use of their hands. Or maybe when they registered they thought they were signing up for some far eastern porn site since POND-BOSS backwards is SSOB-DONP which everyone knows in Mandarin is "Som Sun Ofa Beech Dun Oileda Nutha Poon. I guess we'll never know...but I can only imagine their suprise and the stupified looks on their faces when they grab a paper towel and anxiously click on the first jpg and see a bunch of pvc sticking out of pickle buckets????? "WHAT THE HECK THIS IS TOO SICK EVEN FOR ME I'M OUTTA HERE!!!!!!!"

I think it is a combination of things. I've got friends who have signed up only so they can search the site (you can't use the search function without signing in). They have no real interest in posting, but they come to the site for information. Others I know personally had a pond problems, they resolved the problems, and they haven't found a need to come back. And, then there have been people who signed up just to cause trouble. I don't know what happens to the people who sign up and post several times between 2:00 AM and 5:00 AM to sell things from China. There have been quite a few of them, and they only post for a few hours. Then I guess them come back and sign up with a different name next time they've got counterfeit designer mechandise to sell.

Ken, the posts get deleted and then they get deleted. Of course, nothing stops them from returning.

Actually, I don't recall getting any porn for quite a few years.

I am on sports message boards, hot tub message boards, and political message boards and that seems to be pretty typical. Lots of people come and go on message boards, but there is usually a core group that is pretty stable. Also some people's lives change, they leave for awhile, and then come back.

I haven't been on in awhile but I try to read and keep up. I don't have much to add because I'm still learning quite a bit here and don't want to look TOO stupid to you pros. that and deer season came along so that consumes most of my free time but that closes this weekend so I'll be right back to my pond-dumb.

Search, learn with no need or too shy to post. Occasionally when you push the right button you can draw a longtime lurker out of the closet.

Actually as someone that participates in a lot of other sites of various topics, I think we're are doing quite well here as far as participation. With the Internet so large and getting larger it's getting harder and harder to be found, hence a lot of new start ups fold quickly. I've been told 10 years ago or more was prime for starting up a website -- now it's bleak.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Sometimes, silence is golden. :-} I am actually working on a pond, but waiting till I get a little closer to finished to share. It has been a slow go,and this site has kept me inspired when the going was tough.

Dave -- this could be a combination of at least two things:

Because of the subject, is it possible you are in denial? Do you store the links before you erase them? Is this why we regularly see postings from you at 4:00 AM?

Secondly, with each advancing year, I recall less and less, except for those stories that my kids and friends say they don't ever want me to tell again. I think only George is more senior/mature than you, and I'm afraid I could be next on the seniority list, just behind you.

M E -- don't worry about speaking up and making a fool of yourself. We welcome all, and we look down upon no one, even when we make serious errors in judgment. If we were all silent, we'd have no fun on this site, and we'd never learn from the mistakes of others.

Glad you joined us. It does take a lot of commitment to ponds, fish, and bad humor to keep coming back. But, we sure learn a lot from each other, we have a lot of fun on the forum, and we have a lot of fun fishing/hunting/imbibing with each other while we tell serious and not-so-serious fish tales.

Marshall -- I think you will do well here.

Where is Randy (rmedgar) when we need him? As you posted earlier, you might fit in the senior citizen community, and you are in Georgia, I realized that I forgot about your neighbor, Randy. First, Randy and I aren't the same guy! We just happen to be slight-of-head hair, bearded, mature in years, and . . .

Depending on where you are in Georgia, you could have a great Pond Boss neighbor -- rmedgar. He is very knowledgeable of ponds, fish management, and Pond Boss.

Marshall, don't believe him! Most here don't. We are pretty sure he and Randy are the same guy who just set up two profiles. However, I must agree that either Ken/Randy or Randy/Ken can provide an awful lot of great knowledge, though Randy doesn't seem to have the same culinary gifts that Ken has! grin

Welcome to the posting side of the forum!

Marshall, don't sweat your lack of knowledge. With the exception of a couple of pros, we are all just students of ponds. We try things, find out that they were really dumb ideas and relate them here.

You also need to take things that certain posters relate with a grain of salt.

Take, for instance, this guy Catmandoo. He claims to have originated in Polar Bear country, lives on a ridgetop somewhere on the East Coast, spends a exhorbitant amount of time traveling to Sodom and Gomorrah land on the West Coast, claims to speak some language that appears to be from elsewhere(Grymalkaese?), claims culinary skills that have to be taken with copious amounts of beer, has a really kinky attachment to worms, has a doppleganger named Randy something or other, stuffs perfectly good(can't be sure how good or old it really is) venison into guts and talks some Right Coast drunks into eating it, and then has the gall to accuse really upstanding, pillar of the community, members of being porn addicts.

And he isn't the only questionable character around here.

Geeze, I think I need legal counsel here -- except that I think my legal counselor is one of the defendants in the libelous diatribe above! cry
