If you're too scared to throw that bait where the fish are, why did you tie it on?

Al -- you got that right. About the only thing we're catching in WV is COLD! The thermometer on my window reads 9 right now, and the foot of snow that is on the ground is turning to frozen ice crystals that are drifting everywhere just so they can get out of the nasty winds. The county west of us is supposed to get about 15 inches of snow by tomorrow afternoon. It will be interesting to hear from Todd who is two or three counties over, near Pinchgut Hollow -- they are supposed to be getting snow, high winds, and the arctic cold!

* Winds... west-northwesterly winds will increase to 25 to 35 mph

Actually fished the White river below Bull Shoals Dam on Monday and it was in the upper 30s. Fished 3 hours and caught over 20 rainbows.

What size were the rainbows lassig?

They where 11 to 14 inches. Real easy to catch, we where fishing in the state park from shore using 3 way rigs and gulp trout eggs. The leader to the number 6 hook was about 20" long and 4lb mono. The drop was about 6" long alos of 4" mono. We would add just enough split shots so the rig would drift slowly with the current. Remember to use barbless hooks as it is the brown trout spawning area and you cannot keep a brown trout right now

Ryan you have an awesome partner. What is the water temperature at the depth the fish are at?

James, I was fishing 9' in 10' of water. The deepest spot in my pond is 11'. My thermometer only has a 4' lead so I have no way of taking temps any deeper.

Jeez you guys have a short memory.

1. That is not a photo shop. It is a photo of Jeremiah.

2. Of course I'm not naked in the photo. Jeez, how crazy would that be. I'm wearing a Brazilian cut neoprene cod piece, perfectly normal attire for one that is noodling for mutant polliwogs.

Sunil is right.

You guys are a bunch of freaks.

I'm more concerned about the guy! Why doesn't he appear to be wearing anything below his shirt, except that giant polliwog?

And a huge smile!

We had a pretty cold weekend, but I think the lowest we saw was 12. Got a couple more inches of snow, but nothing very exciting overall. Compared to you and some of the others here, I feel a little bit like a sissy if I go outside wearing more than a hooded sweatshirt since it's not really that cold yet! Now as for Pinchgut Hollow, I haven't been out there to check, so conditions may be much worse!

No trout here - unless they are specks in saltwater. RT may be a next winter adventure.

that was a ripe holdover female full of eggs. we use the term holdover to mean a fish planted in a previous season and surviving in the lake long enough to develop pink or orange meat (i.e. naturalizing).

this is the result:

eric, i wonder if you could have holdover success in old Miss...

Pulling a trick on Todd Overton - he doesn't know I'm posting this photo.
He just returned from a well deserved vacation trip to Colorado.

Fished some ice and caught a lot of little BG and LMB. And hit an open water spillway and had a lot of luck getting some good sized BG, decent crappie, and the dinkiest LMB I've ever seen. Crazy to be able to fish open water in January.

I didn't know that golden shiners would grow this big in a pond. Is this cause for concern?

I think Bruce has selectively bred that specific variety and has gotten them to right around 200#.
