O.K.
The pond is looking very good - clear water and lots of bugs / food for fish to eat in the cuts and shallows. The bass are fat and well proportioned in all sizes and lengths that we hook. The BG and Red Ears are the same.
My question is - do we cull the fish based upon a larger size or do we target the ones that seem to be in the majority of numbers. We can catch 4 to one of 1 pound bass vs fish above 3 pounds.
I am a rice farmer and this exceeds my pay grade.
many thanks
Greg

After the first year, you should start escorting everything under about 13 to 14 inches to the frying pan. I know that they look good for now but that means that there is plentiful forage for all sizes. However, the smaller ones will spawn creating a shortage of small fish that need to grow larger for the larger predators.
We often love our bass to death.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.
