hello all, long time, no post.
Wondering if anyone has a good tip on an ice fishing shanty. Ours is about 30 years old, and the canvas is worn so thin it barely makes for a wind-block much less something to stay warm in when we stay out past dark.
We've thought insulation a little bit, some foam wallboard panels along the walls would block the wind, and some packing styrofoam wrap along the ceiling for insulation, but all in all it is getting to the point where just building a new shell might be in order. one problem, none of us can sew.
So......
who's got an idea for a good shanty? Making a new one is an option, but we'd need the plans to make a collapsible one so we can haul it around dad's pond as well as to the other lakes in the chain of lakes if the bite isn't strong.
Anybody know of a set of plans we can follow? Construction under a hundred bucks would be best (we have some material already with friends in the construction field), and enough space for 4 ppl + gear.
Any ideas?
ps......the current one might last us the year, but thinking about the future.
Also looking for a good source for used tip-ups, if anyone is willing to part with any. that is doubtful, though, and considering how quickly the bids raise on e-bay, im not the only one who needs a set.

Have you tried the website IceShanty.com? If not that would be a great place to get the information you need. There's an Illinois section too.
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

no, i haven't. I certainly will, though. Thanks Cecil.
Still looking for plans, however. I think the construction of a new shanty would be a fun weekend project on first ice. spend half the time building, the other half chasing tip-ups (my favorite part). Then by the time it gets dark be able to hide inside the new shelter.
Another complication is that i need it to be at least somewhat compact when put away, since i will be storing it under my dad's deck (he generously offered to house all of my ice equip, since 90% of my hard water fishing is at his place. Hmmmm....wonder why.....)

Skinnybass,
There are entire threads dedicated to building your own ice shanty there. It's one of the most fun things to look at. Some are really wild!
